Ilia Trauberg, a former assistant to Charles Wicker, began her career as a director two years after she joined his Dead Filmmakers, with The Elevator (1994). She earned a reputation the following year with The Lovers (1995) [Produced by Wicker and his presence is felt throughout] this lyrical film about a brief love affair between a bored high school art teacher and her young female student was a strong statement about lesbian sexuality. Later, in an essay about her work, Trauberg would confess the story to be semi-autobiographical.

Her next film, Will o the Wisp (1996) a film about a stripper who falls in love with her husbands sister was a critical disappointment.

Trauberg made three more films, Fire Within (1996), Life (1997), and India (1998), but were never released. Although she no longer makes films she does remain active in the film community.

Ilia Trauberg currently lives in New York and works as photographers assistant in the fashion industry.
